Baskets filled the science lab on February 3rd awaiting pick-up by
volunteers taking them to the Beth Housman Benefit that was
held from 5-9pm at the Elks Lodge in Huron.
The benefit was sponsored by a special committee set up to organize the
event.
The school staff and students were anxious to contribute to this
fundraiser since Cody and Cole attend school here.
The event was filled with emotion as hundreds attended and enjoyed a
supper of pork loin sandwiches, beans, potato salad, chips,
and bars.
People were observed laughing and joking as they made silent bids on
special baskets of items donated by students from Wolsey-Wessington
School and other contributors.
|
The baskets ranged from a coffee/chocolate theme to a John Deere theme.
Each of the grades contributed a basket for the event.
A raffle
was held for two of one/half processed hogs. That drawing was
held at 7:00 pm. Following
that an auction was held of donated items including cookies,
blankets, pictures, knick-knacks, and various items.
After
the auction, many people stayed to visit with each other and
help with clean-up. A
number of W-W students attended the event and many enjoyed a
game of pool.
Ms.
Housman gave special thanks to all who had volunteered and
contributed to the success of the evening.
She was seen conversing with many people and renewing
friendships.

Keith, Eli, Cody, and Cole, Ms. Housman’s boys, acted as hosts of the
evening. They had spent a busy afternoon setting up tables and
chairs for the event
Ms.
Housman will be incurring many expenses in the near future
because she will be seeking medical treatment
at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
She is suffering from a brain tumor.
